FREE WEBINAR: SOLUTIONS FOR ENLARGED PROSTATE (BPH)

Tuesday, February 28 at 5:30 P.M.

In many men, starting around age 40-50, the prostate can grow. Enlarged prostate, or BPH, is a common, benign (non-cancerous) condition that results from this growth and can often affect urination, sometimes to a level that sacrifices quality of life.

Dr. Ryan Flynn invites you to learn about BPH, how it is diagnosed, and the variety of treatment options available.

This online webinar is FREE but you must register in advance so we can send you the log-in information.

Dr. Ryan FlynnAbout Ryan Flynn, M.D.

Dr. Flynn graduated from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C., and completed his residency in the Department of Urology at the University of Toledo Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame.

VAS MADNESS: YOUR DOCTOR’S NOTE TO THE FINAL FOUR

You might not be thinking about your March Madness bracket just yet, but now is the time to think of “Vas Madness.” This a national trend when men considering vasectomies schedule their appointments before the NCAA Championship games. Then, they can recover at home while watching their favorite teams play. We suggest scheduling those March procedures now, so you can ensure you get a spot in the Vas Bracket before tip-off.

Bonus point: The Urology Group now offers nitrous oxide during the vasectomy procedure, a “laughing gas” that provides relaxation without any lingering effects. Go vas! Go team!

TREATMENTS AVAILABLE FOR PBH: DON’T GIVE UP

Men will quickly seek treatment for a range of conditions, from erectile dysfunction to a sore back. Yet while nearly half of all men experience symptoms of an enlarged prostate by the age of 60, many just “live with it.”

You don’t have to. The symptoms of an enlarged prostate (BPH) might be relieved as easily as through diet modifications or medications, including Alpha blockers. If these don’t work, there a range of non-invasive and surgical treatments available. Among them:

  • UroLift® – This breakthrough procedure involves inserting two small implants that pull (not cut) the enlarged prostatic tissue away from the urethra.
  • GreenLight™ Laser Therapy – Greenlight is a laser technology that rapidly heats and vaporizes prostate tissue that is obstructing urine flow.
  • Aquablation – This minimally-invasive treatment for BPH uses the power of water to remove prostate tissue. The prostate is accessed through your urethra; no abdominal incision is needed.
  • Transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) – In the procedure, the physician trims away excess tissue using electric currents.
  • Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) – A HoLEP is often relied on to treat enlarged prostates because it can remove the most tissue at once, in one piece. A second instrument cuts the tissue into smaller bits.
  • Robotic simple prostatectomy – If a very large portion of the prostate must be removed, this robotic surgery, which requires an incision, might be required.

Don’t let an enlarged prostate keep you up at night. The Urology Group offers these and other treatments at our BPH Clinic.
