Women’s Sexual Health

The Urology Group treats post-menopausal women suffering from vaginal atrophy and vaginal dryness with the non-invasive procedure MonaLisa Touch®.

Overview

It is common for women to experience changes in gynecologic health as they age. These changes can result in painful intercourse and a love life that’s just not what it used to be.

MonaLisa Touch laser therapy delivers a clinically proven, virtually painless treatment that takes less than five minutes and delivers rapid and lasting relief.

Cause

A decline in estrogen levels in post-menopausal women can cause vaginal atrophy and dryness, leading to painful sexual intercourse.

Symptoms

In the United States, as many as half of post-menopausal women suffer from vaginal atrophy as a result of a decline in estrogen levels. Symptoms often include:

  • Pain during intercourse
  • Vaginal dryness and itching
  • Burning during urination
  • Frequent urinary tract infection

Treatment

In the MonaLisa Touch procedure, the urologist uses a small probe to deliver gentle levels of laser energy into the soft tissue of the vaginal walls. This stimulates the production of collagen. The resulting enhanced moisture levels in the vaginal canal ease many of the painful symptoms post-menopausal women experience.

The treatment consists of three sessions, each lasting less than five minutes. Among the benefits:

  • Anesthesia is not necessary.
  • It can be performed as in-office treatments.
  • There are minimal side effects and little discomfort.
  • Patients can resume typical activities promptly.
  • Patients report rapid relief from symptoms.

Insurance Note:

MonaLisa Touch is currently not covered by most health insurance plans. Patients interested in MonaLisa Touch should consult with their urologists.
