The Urology Group’s Dr. Cynthia D. Westermann Receives National Certification
Joins select group with completion of College of American Pathologists program
CINCINNATI (Jan. 29, 2015) – Cynthia D. Westermann, M.D., of The Urology Group, has received certification in the Advanced Practical Pathology Program in Prostate from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). Dr. Westermann oversees The Urology Group’s nationally accredited laboratory.
Program admittance is by application only and limited to pathologists with intermediate to high skill levels in prostate pathology. Dr. Westermann joins a select group of fewer than 100 pathologists across the country who have completed the program.
The program requires more than 40 hours of online instruction and training prior to workshop attendance, a practical exam and a written exam. The curriculum includes best lab practices for prostate tests, interpreting and diagnosing all levels of complexity and disease types, and integrating strategies as part of a multi-disciplinary patient care approach.
The certification validates the knowledge and resources available through The Urology Group’s pathology lab, ensuring that the pathologist is an integral part of the patient’s treatment team. The Urology Group has the only in-house lab dedicated to urologic and prostate tissue analysis and biopsies in the Greater Cincinnati area.
“Dr. Westermann’s certification reflects the depth of her experience and expertise,” said Dr. Gary Kirsh, president of The Urology Group. “It further illustrates the advanced capabilities of our on-site lab facilities, and our commitment to providing patients cutting-edge treatment and outstanding care.”
Dr. Westermann joined The Urology Group in 2013. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and has nearly 30 years of experience in clinical and anatomical pathology. Certified by the American Board of Pathology and the National Board of Medical Examiners, she is a member of the College of American Pathologists, Cincinnati Academy of Medicine and the Ohio State Medical Association.
