A Snip for Your Sweetie – Vasectomy

October 02, 2024

Cincinnati (October 1, 2024)—Sweetest Day is October 19, which means men may be struggling to find an appropriate gift. The physicians at The Urology Group have an idea: Instead of flowers, how about a vasectomy?

If men are sure they don’t want to have children or are finished having them, a vasectomy could be the most appropriate gift to give. It’s more than 99.99% effective at preventing pregnancy.

“A vasectomy is a fairly simple procedure,” says Dr. Paurush Babbar, a men’s health-focused physician with The Urology Group. “You’ll receive a numbing medicine before the 10- to 20-minute procedure begins. Then, using one or two tiny incisions, your urologist will snip each of the tubes that carry sperm and seal them to prevent the passage of sperm in the future.”

Two to three months later, a urologist will take a semen sample to confirm sterility.

However, many men avoid the procedure out of fear or misconceptions. A vasectomy does not affect a man’s:

  • ability to perform sexually
  • sensation felt during intercourse
  • ability to achieve orgasm
  • ability to ejaculate
  • hormone levels, which means no change to your sex drive, voice pitch, hair distribution

Vasectomies are available at every office within The Urology Group. Find the office closest to you at urologygroup.com or call (513) 841-7400.
