Ron’s Story – A penile implant resolved his ED

August 16, 2022

“Just because you’re in your eighties doesn’t mean you’re too old to have sex,” says Ron. “My wife and I have always enjoyed it, which is why it was important to me to find a solution for my erectile dysfunction.”

Ron’s quest for help in achieving a full, rigid erection was a frustrating one. “At first I figured this is just the way things are at my age,” he says. “But I wasn’t ready for that to end and knew it didn’t have to.”

Rons story

So, he went to various physicians asking for help. “Some seemed embarrassed to talk about it, others said male sexuality is a complicated system that can even fail men in their 20s. They insinuated that I should just get over it. But I wasn’t willing to accept that.” Eventually Ron tried pills, and then a vacuum pump. But he wasn’t happy with the results.

Ironically Ron found his answer during treatment for a urinary tract infection. “I met with a physician assistant at a follow-up appointment and mentioned that I hadn’t been able to find a solution for my erectile dysfunction. I was surprised when she described some options I hadn’t heard of.”

That’s when Ron turned to The Urology Group and Kevin Campbell, MD. “He was happy to discuss all the treatment options available for ED,” says Ron. “I finally found a physician group that was open to all the possibilities and to finding the option that was best for me.”

In December of 2020 Ron had a penile implant, a self-contained, fluid-filled system that suits him perfectly. “I squeeze a small bulb located in my scrotum and fluid flows into my penis and makes it erect for as long as I want,” says Ron. “I love the spontaneity; within a minute I’m ready to go.” The erection remains until he presses a release button on the pump to return the fluid to the reservoir.

Ron says the implant is a win-win for him and his wife. “We’re an active couple. But with my ED we were missing an important aspect of life. Now I have regained the confidence and self-esteem I had once lost. I feel like a young man again.”
