The Urology Group: Celebrating 25 Years

July 19, 2021 | By: Earl Walz, CEO

In 1996, the medical world was entering a remarkable age of discovery: Dolly the sheep was cloned; a combination therapy treatment was discovered to manage HIV/AIDS; and Pfizer patented a revolutionary erectile dysfunction drug called Viagra.

And in that same year, 25 years ago, 23 physicians from seven different urology practices joined to form The Urology Group.

Since then, we have expanded from one office in Norwood to facilities across Greater Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and Southeast Indiana. We added an ambulatory surgery center and pathology lab and built a state-of-the-art campus facility large enough to house our leading-edge equipment, technologies, and specialties.

Now celebrating our 25th year, The Urology Group is recognized as one of the leading urology specialty groups in the United States, and one of the largest providers in the region.

Our success is built on four promises:

These principles define us, but we would not have succeeded at any of them if it were not for our single biggest accomplishment: the trust of our patients. We are here only because of you, and every day we strive to deliver the best in care. We hope over the next 25 years, you will continue to be there with us.

  • Expertise. With nearly 40 physicians specializing in advanced urologic care, The Urology Group provides a depth of talent that is hard to match, yet we continually strive for more. Our team has been performing clinical trials for 23 years and has invested in breakthrough technologies including robotics and CyberKnife prostate cancer treatment. Our specialized clinics include treatments for BPH (enlarged prostate), bladder and bowel control, advanced prostate cancer, and men’s sexual health.
  • Personalization. Across 12 locations, our network provides the resources to give customized and subspecialized urologic care throughout the region. This is how we are able to treat more than 30,000 patients and perform more than 15,000 outpatient procedures a year, from lithotripsy for kidney stones to female pelvic treatments, and so much more. We address the needs of patients managing common to highly complex conditions.
  • Focus. The Urology Group is the highest volume urology-only surgery center in the region, so we can be both nimble and pioneering. Through radiology, pathology, surgery, cancer treatments, and clinical trials, our integrated structure allows us to deliver care seamlessly, and entirely in-house, for more efficiency, reduced costs, and positive patient outcomes.
  • Community. In addition to corporate sponsorships and the community involvement of our staff members, The Urology Group often provides free prostate cancer screenings to underserved communities. Since 2008, we have hosted 11 ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer runs/walks, which have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for prostate cancer research and prevention.

These principles define us, but we would not have succeeded at any of them if it were not for our single biggest accomplishment: the trust of our patients. We are here only because of you, and every day we strive to deliver the best in care. We hope over the next 25 years, you will continue to be there with us.
