Cooper R. Benson, M.D.

Education and Background

Dr. Benson received his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, after which, he completed a general surgery internship at LSUHSC- New Orleans. He completed his Urology training at the McGovern Medical School at the University of Texas–Houston and MD Anderson Cancer Center. He then went onto Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, where he completed a Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery (GURS) Fellowship. 

Prior to joining The Urology Group, Dr. Benson was in an academic practice, as an Assistant Professor at UTHealth -Houston, and prior to that at Tulane University School of Medicine. Throughout his academic career, he has specialized in reconstructive urology and was actively involved in training medical students and urology residents.

A native of Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Benson and his family are excited to return to the Midwest as he joins The Urology Group. His clinical interests include urethral strictures, genitourinary trauma, urologic prosthetics, male urinary incontinence, erectile dysfunction, cancer survivorship, ureteral strictures, neurourology, and urologic congenitalism.

Dr. Benson is a Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Urology. He is a member of the:

Dr. Benson has been an invited speaker and presenter at multiple conferences including the American Urologic Association Annual Meetings (2022, 2023) and his research has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals.
