Local12 – Dr. Mark Delworth Talks Bladder Reconstruction

Although back pain was her initial issue, a patient discovered she was facing bladder cancer after a routine CT scan. The original prognosis looked grim, however, after connecting with Dr. Mark Delworth of The Urology Group, this patient has a new lease on life.

Using robotic surgery, Dr. Delworth removed her diseased bladder and then, using a small portion of her bowel, reconstructed her bladder. Although her reconstructed bladder is currently external, the patient says it has not limited her lifestyle and she is just grateful for more time.

Though bladder cancer often has no major symptoms, anyone experiencing blood in their urine or repeated urinary tract infections (UTIs) should consult a urologist for further evaluation.
