Overview
PET scans (positron emission tomography) have long been helping physicians detect cancer and other diseases for decades.
Now available is a newer version of a PET scan – the PSMA PET/CT scan – considered the single best method available today to precisely locate prostate cancer in the body.
The PSMA (prostate specific membrane antigen) PET/CT scan uses radioactive tracers to pinpoint the presence and exact location of prostate cancer throughout the body. Knowing the exact location of cancer, especially if it has spread beyond the prostate, helps your physician make more informed decisions about your treatment.
A PSMA PET/CT scan can detect small cancer growths that may be missed by other imaging tests. It’s a powerful tool that is improving prostate cancer care.
If you (or someone you care about) may have prostate cancer, ask if a PSMA PET/CT scan is right for you.
