NEW BPH TREATMENT A GAME CHANGER

Senior man day dreaming while drinking coffee and looking through window at home.

If you’re suffering from an enlarged prostate (frequent urination, weak urine stream, leakage), this new treatment may be for you. Considered a game-changer by many BPH sufferers, Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE) is:

  • Non-surgical
  • Performed in an outpatient setting instead of a hospital
  • Requires no general anesthesia (only “twilight sleep”)
  • Low risk of side effects, including erectile dysfunction
How does PAE work?

Your prostate gets larger as you age. The extra tissue compresses the urethra (passageway for urine), causing difficulties with urination. PAE shrinks the prostate, which relieves pressure on the urethra and allows urination to return to normal. It’s performed by an Interventional Radiologist who injects tiny particles into the blood vessels of the prostate. The particles restrict blood flow, causing the prostate to shrink over time.

Ask your doctor if PAE is right for you.

BREAKTHROUGH SCAN IMPROVES CANCER DETECTION

A new, more precise scan to detect cancer in the body is now available to patients of The Urology Group. The PSMA PET/CT scan can detect cancer that is often missed by other scanning techniques. Currently available to our prostate cancer patients, the PSMA PET/CT scan is considered the single best method available today to locate cancer precisely. It works like this:

  1. The patient is injected with a radioactive imaging agent that finds and attaches itself to cancer cells.
  2. The radioactive agent is detected during the PSMA PET/CT scan, indicating exactly where the cancer cells exist.
  3. Knowing the exact location of the cancer cells allows for precisely targeted treatment.

The PSMA PET/CT scan can detect small cancer growths that may be missed during other imaging tests. It’s a powerful tool that’s enhancing cancer care.

If you or someone you care about may have prostate cancer, ask if a PSMA PET/CT scan is right for you.

DO YOU HAVE A CONSTANT COMPANION CALLED OVERACTIVE BLADDER?

If you’re living with a leaky or overactive bladder, here’s what you should know. OAB is common in men and women. And it’s treatable. That means you don’t have to live with it. Try these home remedies:

  • Cut down on caffeinated drinks, alcohol, chocolate, tomatoes, citrus, and spicy foods.
  • Double down on fiber to prevent constipation, which can aggravate OAB.
  • Practice limiting urination to specific times of the day instead of going whenever you have the urge.
  • Drink lots of water. It may seem odd, but limiting water can actually distress the bladder and worsen OAB.

If that doesn’t significantly curb your OAB, you can trust The Urology Group to determine which up-to-date treatment is best for you:

  • Do you dribble when you giggle? It happens when the muscles that close your bladder become weak. There’s a solution for that.
  • Do you have sudden, uncontrollable urges to urinate? If you visit the toilet 8 or more times a day or look for the nearest restroom whenever you go out, there’s a solution for that.
  • Is a “good night’s sleep” a thing of the past? If you’re getting up two or more times to urinate, there’s a solution for that.

There are many solutions for leaky and overactive bladders. We won’t give up until your condition is resolved.

If OAB is your constant companion, request an appointment or call 513-841-7400 to find the solution that’s right for you.

Worried that OAB may disrupt your summer vacation plans? Here are 9 tips for relaxing the urge during your summer travels.
