Our Prostate Cancer Fight in the National Spotlight

September 14, 2015

The national spotlight in the fight against prostate cancer shone in our neighborhood this weekend. On Saturday, Sept. 12, The Urology Group hosted the second largest ZERO Prostate Cancer 10k/5k event in the country with more than 1,500 participants convening at our Norwood Campus.

Rising country star Jimmy Charles performed his new song, “Superman,” prior to the start of the Race. Jimmy wrote the song afer meeting prostate cancer survivors and currently serves as the national spokesperson for ZERO Prostate Cancer. A former American Idol finalist, Jimmy recorded a music video that launched on CMT (Country Music Television) earlier this month.

The prostate cancer Survivors’ Breakfast, hosted by FOX19 Morning News anchor Rob Williams, served as an inspirational highlight of the day. The event welcomes cancer survivors and their caregivers from across the region, saluting their strength and courage during their cancer fight. This annual event gives survivors a chance to get caught up with one another, sharing stories and insights from their experiences.Â

The weather cooperated with cool temperatures for the Race itself, allowing many runners to finish with competitive times. For others, simply finishing the Race was an achievement, and they too received applause and hugs from their supporters.

As we work to finalize the grand totals, we know that this year’s Race will contribute more than $100,000 to ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer. In addition to our runners, we have many sponsors, both local and national, to thank for their assistance.

On behalf of the physicians and staff of The Urology Group, many of whom were deeply involved and devoted countless hours to this event, I’d like to thank our community for supporting this important cause in men’s health.

And finally – congratulations to everyone who helped us deliver a great performance in the national spotlight!
