A Great Day for the Race

September 09, 2013

Saturday’s weather was nearly perfect for the 2013 ZERO Prostate Cancer 5K/10K Run/Walk – sunny and cool. And the record number of participants made the day even more beautiful.

In case you missed it, our Norwood campus hosted nearly 1,500 runners, walkers, family members, neighbors and volunteers on Saturday morning, September 7. In addition to the race, everyone had the opportunity to enjoy music, food and drinks while supporting a great cause: raising awareness and funds to eliminate prostate cancer.

Though the final totals are still being calculated, this event will contribute more than $100,000 to ZERO – The End of Prostate Cancer (https://zerocancer.org), making the Cincinnati event one of the largest of its kind in the nation. We have many sponsors, both local and national, to thank for their support.

Attendees also saw a rare sight: the hosts of the four local morning TV news programs in the same place at the same time. Rob Williams from FOX19, John Lomax from Local 12, Todd Dykes from Channel 5 and Brian Yocono from Channel 9 joined together to show their support for this important cause. We greatly appreciate their time and support as they each spoke from the main stage prior to the race.

We were also inspired by nearly 100 local prostate cancer survivors, whom we welcomed with a special breakfast reception, along with their families and friends.

On behalf of Dr. Gary Kirsh, president of The Urology Group and Earl Walz, CEO, I’d like to thank the Greater Cincinnati community for supporting this important cause in men’s health. Together we can improve the lives of men throughout the Tri-state who are fighting prostate cancer.
